Artist: Ted Lyddon Hatten

March, 2023

In March 2023 artist Ted Lyddon Hatten from Iowa, USA made ephemeral art using dry tea (tasseopictura) during three Sunday services. In the centre of each work was this dove. Each Sunday connected the work to an aspect of peace. (“Peace looking for a place to land”, “Peace…”, “A paired Peace.”)

At the conclusion of the third service this dove (#4) was released to Rhythms of Grace church and its pair (#3)… migrated back to Dovecote Studios in Iowa.

She/he (although this bird is a female, both sexes build the nest and take turns nurturing eggs and young) is #4 in the artist’s peace project series of ibid dentrite (two birds from the same branch) doves, and she can be named according to what you need her to be when you hold her in the palm of your hand.

The series of photos shows the process the artist took the branch through to have her and her partner emerge. She is polished not with lacquer but increasingly fine sanding, ending with 15000 grit sandpaper.
She is made to be handled and can be lifted from her nest and held at any time.
