Tenebrae – Service of Shadows

  • Undercroft
  • 8:00pm

Service of Shadows, is an ancient Christian Holy Week tradition focusing on the Passion of Christ. Characterised by a gradually darkening sanctuary, it features readings and hymns, with candles—including a central “Christ candle”—extinguished to symbolise his betrayal, trial, death and burial. This service will also include a “washing of feet” ritual for those who wish.

Cross

Join a local community for a stations of the cross walk.

Devonport. Combined churches Stations of the Cross walk up Mt Victoria, Devonport. Starts at 10am at Windsor Reserve.

Mt Albert. Combined churches Stations of the Cross walk around Mt Albert. Starts at 10am at Mt Albert Methodist (831 New North Road,) and finishes at St Lukes Anglican at around 12.30pm

Matthew Y. Emerson says, “We Protestants don’t talk a lot about Holy Saturday, the day between Good Friday and Easter Sunday. There are quite a few reasons for this, but chief among them, I think, is that we just don’t know what to do with it.

You are invited on a reflective walk that begins at the Garden Tomb, moves to the disciples gathered in a locked room, continues along the road to Emmaus, and concludes with Jesus sharing breakfast on the beach and Peter’s recommissioning.
